Bust a Move! 8 of Wands Gives you the Green Light (Monday)

8 of wands
Tarot of the Dream Enchantress

Today it’s time to bust a move out of that snail shell you’ve been hiding in and pick up the pace!

The Eight of Wands is all about things happening quickly and events unfolding at record speed. Today is not the time to go within and slow down – instead, burst forth and rocket forward!

If you have a to-do list a mile long that you’ve been neglecting, choose the things on there that scare you the most (or that make you feel uncomfortable) and do those first.

Don’t wait for things to speed up, take charge of the situation and move yourself forward – doing anything else will leave you feeling antsy and restless.

In the comments below, tell me one thing you are going to do today to move yourself closer to a big goal you have…

  1. Hi Kate
Thanks for that advise on looking at the image on the card and reading what it is saying to you and not just “sticking”to the traditional meaning.Maybe just keeping the traditional meaning “lapping” at the edge of the Tarot card

What I see, when I look at this card, is the opportunity rise up from the safe nest I’ve been in and emerge to take some risks – to put myself out there fully. But we don’t see her legs so this, to me, is not yet about physical movement as much as it is about an movement of consciousness. I love this card. Thank you!

    1. Love that interpretation, Jennifer – and it really resonates with me too ๐Ÿ™‚
      Thanks for your comment!

  3. Kate,

Just a note about the difference between the image on this card and the traditional meaning of the Eight of Wands: For me, as an intuitive card reader, the image trumps the traditional meaning. When I first saw this card, it baffled me, as the artist has clearly drawn a picture that counters the traditional book meaning of the Eight of Wands.

A snail is NOT eight wands flying through the air! So what does that tell me about the card’s advice for me? Maybe just what you say in this paragraph: “Donโ€™t wait for things to speed up, take charge of the situation and move yourself forward โ€“ doing anything else will leave you feeling antsy and restless.” But maybe don’t expect the speedy response from the Universe that is typical of the “flying wands” version of this card.

Generally, I assume (for my own readings) that the particular deck I pick is significant, so I try to incorporate the variations that the images suggest on the typical meanings that I might find in a book. This allows me to stay in the basic arena of the card meaning, while still allowing for the artist’s input to sway me.

    What do you think?

    Hugs,
    jme

    1. Jamie – I agree completely! Otherwise, what would be the point of using different decks? I am getting away from the traditional meanings more and more and focusing more on the image, although I think the traditional meaning is still relevant, it shouldn’t be front and center. Last night I did a reading with my Druidcraft Tarot and I asked “why am I here?” and I got 5 of Pentacles – blah! That card totally sucks. The traditional meaning didn’t make much sense within the context of the reading, but I noticed that the image is of a woman hiding her face refusing to look at what is going on – this made more sense to me as it seems like my task is to open my eyes and “awaken” in a spiritual sense. But I would not have come to that conclusion had I been using a different deck – so yes, the deck is important!
