Welcome to part 3 of my 40 part series Minor Arcana Meanings Deep Dives – each week or so we’ll hang out with ONE Tarot card and dive deeply into it’s symbols, meanings and messages – I’ll even give you some journalling questions to help you contemplate and connect with each card. Advice & Messages
The Ace of Cups appears in your reading to advise you to practice gratitude and pay attention to the things you truly appreciate in life. This opens the heart and makes it easier to choose peace and healing, especially in relationships.
This Ace reminds you to be in your heart and hold a space for whatever feelings want to flow through you, allowing for emotional release and healing. Openness and receptivity are the hallmarks of the Ace of Cups and they form the foundation for any future love and/or healing.
While the Ace of Swords and Ace of Wands is all about grabbing life by the balls and taking action, the Ace of Cups is about kicking back and being receptive and seeing what shows up.
External vs Internal meanings
Internally, the Ace of Cups represents allowing your emotions to flow, being in your heart and practising gratitude. Externally, it can show up as a new relationship or a “second honeymoon” in an existing relationship, or a new opportunity to feel love and connection with others.
Reversed
If the Ace of Cups appears reversed, it can mean you feel disconnected from your heart and you’re struggling to find gratitude. Perhaps someone is reaching out and asking for forgiveness and healing and you’re saying “NO! Not yet.”
Reversed, this Ace can also represent feeling very un-peaceful, like your emotions are being swirled around and tipped upside down. You might have trouble finding a sense of calm or healing in this state.
A reversed Ace of Cups can also mean rejecting a love offering or not being able to make a fresh start in a relationship by forgiving, letting go and healing the past.
