Pssst! I’m going to go live on my YouTube channel on Halloween Oct 31st @ 12:30pm PDT, doing free, 1-card readings and a monthly forecast reading for November 🙂 Come join me and maybe get a reading!
For this week’s reading, I’m using the very special, Halloween themed Tarot deck, Trick Or Treat Tarot….
Pssst! I’m teaching a brand NEW workshop THIS Sunday, Oct 20 – Awaken Your Clairvoyant Self is a special workshop designed to activate and develop your psychic sight – you can sign up RIGHT HERE ♥
In keeping with the Halloweeny theme for his month, I’ve chosen the cute and spooky Shadowland Tarot for this week’s reading….and my cheeky black cat makes an appearance…
Every Halloween, I conduct a special Tarot reading night – it’s just me, my cats and just like Rick James sang “she’s got incense, wine, and candles…It’s such a freaky scene!”
Each year, I try to mix up what spread I use, so here’s the Halloween Tarot Spread I’ll be reading with this year….
I created this spread for all you witchy people out there, who like to do your goal setting and life planning in October. This spread is a little more involved than my other spreads, because it requires you to do some contemplating and journalling beforehand – but trust me, the extra effort is well worth it ♥

There’s nothing I love more than using a witchy Tarot deck during October (my favourite month!!!) – so let’s settle in and shuffle the Everyday Witch Tarot and see what energies, themes and opportunities the week ahead has for you…
Here are your Tarot cards for your week ahead – so get comfy, kick back and let’s see what the Modern Witch Tarot has to tell us about the themes, energies and opportunities of the upcoming week…
I don’t typically read Tarot everyday, but I was recently inspired to try this method after reading about how to calculate your Personality, Soul and Year cards in Mary K Greer’s book Who Are You In The Tarot?
This exercise involves numbers and math – but don’t let that turn you off – this new daily Tarot practice has me excitedly reaching for my cards each morning!
Daily Tarot Practice: Calculate Your Tarot Card of the Day
1. Take today’s date and add up all the numbers. For example, the day I’m writing this is Sept 21, 2024.
09 + 21 + 2+0+2+4 = 38
If you get a number that’s higher than 22, further reduce that number by adding the two numbers together. In my case, my number would be 38 (3 + 8)= 11
2. Now, take that number and find the major arcana card with that number. In my case, it’s Justice. Fuck, I hate that card!
If you get number 22, its The Fool.
This is your Tarot Card of the Day! It gives you an overall idea of the general weather or energy of the day and the type of stuff you might encounter. It could represent a person that you’ll interact with today, or an event or experience you might have.
3. What do you think this card is telling you about the day ahead? Jot down a few ideas in your Tarot journal.
Personally, I think Justice is telling me that I may encounter a serious (but highly intelligent) person and that I’ll need to use my good judgement today when it comes to time management and prioritizing.
4. At the end of your day, have another look at this card. How does it reflect the day you had? How did this card show up for you?
Going Deeper: Incorporating Your Personality Card!
Your Personality Card reflects your personality traits, life mission, goals and values. It’s calculated by adding up all the numbers in your birth date. My Personality Card is The Emperor and while I’m not stubborn or controlling, I am fiercely independent, self employed and do things in my own weird way.
1. Find your Personality Card by adding up your birth date – the day, month and year – and find the Major Arcana card of that number.
For example, if you were born on October 7, 1987 (10 + 7 + 1+9+8+7) = 42 Since this number is higher than 22, we’ll further add it up (4 + 2 = 6) Now, find the Major Arcana card of that number. In the example above, number 6 is The Lovers!
2. Find the card of the day by adding up the numbers in today’s date.
3. Place these two cards side by side. The card of the day tells you the general energy of today, while your Personality Card tells you how you’ll interact with this energy.
How do these cards interact? Feel free to journal about it in your Tarot Journal.
Going Even Deeper: Calculating Your Inner Card of the Day
Your Inner Card of the Day reflects the internal experiences, challenges and opportunities you’ll encounter today and it’s it’s calculated by adding your Personality Card to your Card of the Day.
1. Add your Personality Card (the numbers in your birth date added up) to your Card of the Day (the numbers in today’s date added up) and then find the Major Arcana card of that number. So in my case, my card of the day is Justice (11) and my Personality Card is The Emperor (4), that would be 11 + 4 = 15 (The Devil).
This is your Inner Card of the Day. Adding up the numbers of today’s date (to find your Day Card) gives you an idea of the general energy of today and how it might look on the outside, but adding your birth date to that number will give you a better sense of how you’ll internally experience yourday.
So if my Inner Card of the Day is The Devil, I may feel tempted all day long to give into a craving, addiction or habit that’s a little bit bad for me.
Look at your Inner Card of the Day and ask:
♥ What does this card mean to you? ♥ What message does it have for you about your day ahead? ♥ How did this card show up for you today? (Ask this one at the end of your day)
Now you have 3 cards to contemplate: your Personality Card, the Card of the Day and then your Inner Card of the Day. But if that feels too complicated, just focus on either your Card of the Day or your Inner Card of the Day.You can make it as quick and simple or as complex as you want!
I’ve only just started playing around with this daily practice but I’ve found it very illuminating! The other day, my Inner Card of the Day was Strength. That day I had to give a pill to my foster cat and then get her in a carrier to go to the vet. I found myself just like this cat lady in Strength, gently coaxing and soothing my little lion as I tried (successfully!) to get her to cooperate.
Let’s shuffle the Giant Rider Waite Tarot and see what energies, themes and opportunities lay ahead for you this week…
I’ll be hosting a Full Moon Tarot Practice Party on Tuesday, Sept 17th @ 5 – 6:30pm PDT. This is your chance to practice reading for others in a warm, friendly environment! Sign up here!
Welcome to part 14 of my 16 part series Meet the Court Cards – each week we will hang out with ONE court card and dive deeply into the symbols, personality traits, talents and dark side. This is similar to my Major Arcana Meanings Deep Diveseries, but we’ll also explore how each court card acts in the context of love, work and money.
I’ll give you specific ways to embody this card as well as some journalling questions to help you connect with this card on a more personal level.
Let’s dive into the King of Swords – he’s serious and stuffy but sharp as a tack! He’s a master strategist who is always several steps ahead of everyone else and has a wicked sense of humour.
Sit back, relax and discover the personality, meanings and secret symbols of this King…
Element = Air (mind, intellect, thoughts, beliefs, focus, communication)
Keywords/Personality Traits
Intelligent, sharp, focused, detail oriented, serious, good negotiator, strategic, ahead of the game, wisdom, ego, knowledge, mental mastery.
Symbols:
clouds = pessimism, thoughts
birds = birds eye view, perspective
blue = coolness, clarity, air/space/breath
Sword = sharp, cuts through distraction
butterflies = transformation
crescent moon = feminine symbol
Talents:
The King of Swords has achieved mastery over his own mind, making him cool headed, wise and full of knowledge. He’s a gifted strategist and skilled negotiator who can talk his way out of anything and read people’s minds.
He uses his sharp mind to serve and protect those he loves and cares for, always defending the vulnerable and the underdog. He gives great advice and you’ll want this guy in your corner when things go wrong!
At a Party…
The King of Swords can be found leaving early, after he’s only stayed 45 min 😉 Parties aren’t his thing and he’s not much fun at them anyway, unless…..it’s a debate party! He LOVES to argue and debate things so as long there’s enough willing participants, he’s all in.
You may even catch him being disagreeable on purpose, just so he can get an argument going since that’s what truly stimulates him. He also has a quirky, dark sense of humour which some love and others are just plain creeped out!
At work…
The King of Swordslives for work and may even derive much of his identity from it. He’s focused, hard working and a high achiever who strives for excellence in everything he does. He takes his work very seriously, to the point of being a bit of a work-a-holic.
He makes a great lawyer or anything that involves a lot of strategising, planning and negotiating. He pays attention to detail and is never sloppy, late or unprofessional. However, he’s not exactly fun to work with. You won’t catch him photocopying his butt or making out in the file room.
In love…
Love is not his strong suit! The King of Swords lacks the emotional intelligence and ability to sense the subtle qualities of emotion, body language and energy, which are necessary skills in the art of relationships.
He’s often married to his work, with relationships coming second place. He’s very practical and level headed when it comes to love which prevents him from truly getting lost in it and he can come across as uncaring or unemotional.
He seeks a partner who is almost as smart as him, but not quite! He loves a good intellectual conversation and finds himself powerfully drawn to the Queen of Swords types. However, his partners often feel small and stupid in his presence as he loves to portray himself as the rational, intelligent one. He always needs to be right and never loses an argument, which gets tiresome very fast.
In Money…
He’s financially comfortable and spends wisely. The King of Swords always has a sound financial plan, often thinking years and decades ahead when making financial decisions.
He isn’t materialistic and doesn’t really take pleasure in acquiring money, but gets rather excited about organizing his money, fiddling around with his stocks and making complex financial plans.
He Thrives on…
Debates and arguments! Words are his weapons and he wields them with expert skill and efficiency, whether he’s trying to sway a jury, win a debate or negotiate a contract.
The King of Swords is in his happy place when he’s acquiring knowledge and wisdom, so libraries, books, research and higher education all make him spring to life. And of course he LOVES playing chess!
Dark Side of the King of Swords…
The King of Swords has a strong mind and the dark side of that is a massive ego!He thinks he’s smarter than everyone (which he probably is!) but lacks the tact to conceal this fact. Since nobody likes to hang around someone who clearly thinks they’re an idiot, his friends are few.
In a bad mood, he’s depressive, pessimistic, overly critical and cold, with sharp words and an icy glare. Overly focused on his work and uncaring about others, he compartmentalizes his life in a cold, unfeeling way.
What does it MEAN?
When the King of Swords shows up in your reading, he could be trying to tell you any of the following:
♥ Take a deep breath, clear your mind and access your inner wisdom.
♥ It’s time to make a plan and develop a strategy
♥ USE your powers of negotiation! Dont’ be shy here.
♥ Be rational, think sensibly and pay attention to details.
♥ You may need to acquire more knowledge and information before making a decision or seek the advice of an expert.
King of Swords Reversed…
Don’t be so serious! Lighten up and watch out for being too “in your head” about things.
You may be having difficulty making a plan or developing a clear strategy – suffering from chronic distraction or cloudy thinking.
Embody it…
You can embody the energy of the King of Swords by doing the following things:
~ plan ahead (have a strategy!)
~ negotiate something
-use your breath to clear your mind and focus
