The 9 of Swords…and why you need to nap more

fridays with veronicaVeronica is my crazed evil twin who reads Tarot, takes long naps and eats men for breakfast. Always sarcastic, slightly witty and a true hedonist, lets hear what she has to say this week…

crow
Animal Wisdom Tarot by Dawn Brunke

Do you ever notice how crows are nefarious little birds? Always watching and plotting and much smarter than you suspect.

That’s because they use their minds for crafty, up to no good behavior and that is what you should do.

You have a crafty, nefarious mind too, but sometimes it uses you and not the other way around.

If your mind is going a mile a minute and just won’t shut the fuck up while you try to fall asleep at night, then you need to get your ass in gear.

Your mind is a tool. Use it. But don’t let it rule you!

Speaking of sleep, this weekend is a good time to catch up on some beauty sleep, one of my favorite hobbies.

Here are my tips for a good nap:

  • Convert your bondage blindfold into a sleep mask to block out the pesky sunlight
  • Always nap alone. Kick your boy-toy out of your bedroom for once!
  • Nap with your head at the foot of your bed – this is so you don’t associate your beauty nap with night time sleep and it just makes things so much more interesting.

Have a napilicious weekend 🙂

It’s Okay to be a Jerk Today

fridays with veronicaVeronica is my evil twin. And oh my god is she evil! The contents of her Kindle are filthy, filthy, filthy, and her mind isn’t much better. The advice she gives via her Tarot cards is one stop short of crazy, but her intentions are pure. So every Friday I let her go batshit…

eagle
The Animal Wisdom Tarot by Dawn Brunke

Today is a good day to act like a sociopath.  At least that’s what I think this card is trying to say.

The Eagle, Guardian of Feathers (aka King of Swords) is here to tell you not to get all emotional and touchy feely about everything. Be cool. Be calm. Detach.

I watched a documentary on eagles last week and those birds are horrible creatures. They don’t give a shit about anyone’s feelings! They push their infant siblings out of the nest and sometimes even eat them alive as soon as they hatch (provided the mama eagle isn’t around).

These giant winged jerks look out for number one. Get in the way of an Eagle and he will pluck your eyes out and won’t even feel a twinge of guilt.

So what can you learn from these airborne psychopaths?

I think Eagle gives us permission to be cool and detached every now and then. Just because you sometimes want to peck the brains and eyes out of your coworkers doesn’t mean you aren’t “spiritual”.

After all, the Eagle is a spiritual symbol. How such a mean bird managed to claim such a high place on the spiritual animal hierarchy is a mystery. Wrens and Robins – perfectly nice birds – are totally looked over.

So let that be a lesson.

In the comments below, tell me which animal you think gets waaaay to much undeserved attention…

Tarot Card for Monday ~ Eight of Cups

octopus
Animal Wisdom Tarot by Dawn Brunke

The Eight of Shells (aka Eight of Cups), comes today to remind you that you may never feel you have enough. You many never feel like you have “arrived” – so don’t go striving for something that doesn’t exist!

Like the octopus, you want to touch many different things! You want to do a little of this, a little of that, all with the hope that something will satisfy that deep, inner craving….but for what? You aren’t sure.

The best thing you can do today is retract your tentacles from all the distractions of your life. Meditate in a quiet room and pretend you are at the bottom of the ocean, relaxing in the still, deep waters.

When you stop searching, you may just find what you’ve been looking for!

Set Yourself Free! Tarot Card for Thursday…

goat
Animal Wisdom Tarot by Dawn Brunke

Today’s Tarot card is Goat: Shadow God of Liberation (aka The Devil). Ask yourself if you are truly free. How do you define “freedom” anyway?

You may be powerfully drawn to that which glitters and sparkles, but beware that these things may not bring you the freedom you crave…only further enslavement.

Perhaps you are telling yourself that if you buy this thing or take this drug or have sex with this person then everything will be better and you will be happier. But nothing brings true happiness like true freedom!

A big wardrobe, new cars and fancy gym memberships are nice, but not having to go to a job you despise is even better! The only thing worth desiring is freedom – everything else is just mere distraction from the fact that you are not as free as you need to be.

So take stock of your desires and pay attention to where you put your energy and then ask yourself: am I breaking my chains or building my prison?

Six of Pentacles ~ Share and Collaborate

gorilla
Animal Wisdom Tarot by Dawn Brunke

Today is all about sharing and conferring with others. The Six of Fossils (aka Six of Pentacles) reminds you that you don’t have to do it all alone!

What groups are you a part of? This can be online communities, your co-workers, social groups, sports teams, whatever – just remember that you have many groups that you can consult with if you need help, advice, ideas or just support.

Someone may unexpectedly help you today in a really big way, or you may feel called to lend a helping hand to a friend or stranger. Sharing, helping others and collaboration will feel very natural and easy for you right now!

Five of Pentacles ~ Start Telling a New Story!

5 of fossils
Animal Wisdom Tarot by Dawn Brunke

Feel like the weight of the world is crushing you? Or perhaps just the heavy load of all your responsibilities are bringing you down? Tell a different story!

If you find yourself lamenting to your friends about how hard things are, realize that this only creates more of what your complaining about. Especially if you actually feel worse afterwards.

Try re-writing your “script”. Here’s an example: The other day I said to a friend “nothing is working out the way I want it to and it is really disappointing.”

I felt much worse after saying that.

What I am going to say from now on is: “While things aren’t unfolding the way I had hoped, I know that everything is unfolding in the order and time it is meant to. I am excited to see where this leads.”

The second response is just as true as the first response, but it has a positive feel to it and makes me feel empowered instead of a helpless victim of life.

Do you have a negative “script” or story that you keep telling yourself and others? How can you re-write it so it feels good?

Cat (High Priestess) ~ Tarot Card for Thursday

cat
The Animal Wisdom Tarot by Dawn Brunke

Today’s Tarot card is Cat, Knower of Secrets, aka the High Priestess. It is time to go within and listen to your inner voice – the voice of your intuition.

Shut out all distractions for at least 20 min today and see what your higher self has to say. It may surprise you!

Also, you may notice that others are rushing to confide in you, asking you to keep their secrets. If this is the case, listen without judgement, but do not offer any advice.

Today is a day of inaction, solitude, rest and introspection – this is what is needed to bring out your true sense of wisdom and spiritual connection.

Lion Courage! ~ Tarot Card for Oct 14 – 20

lion
Animal Wisdom Tarot by Dawn Brunke

This week is all about finding your strength and expressing it compassionately.

In order to be truly courageous, you must also be centered in your heart. How do you do this? Work towards dissolving the fear within you.

Being riddled with fear stops you from being courageous and feeling love for life and humanity. But don’t focus too much on fear, as that will only make you more fearful!

Instead, focus on feeling safe. This doesn’t mean staying within your comfort zone – it means stepping out of your comfort zone, but feeling safe while doing so.

You may want to work with an affirmation this week, such as “I am safe and divinely protected at all times.” Whenever you feel fear creeping in, repeat this affirmation.

Another trick you can try when you feel the need for a dose of courage, is imagine you have a giant lion standing next to you, ready to defend you if need be. Notice how different you carry yourself when you do this.

You will be amazed at what you can do when you are no longer ruled by fear!
