Ace of Swords! Tarot Card for Monday

ace of swords
Robin Wood Tarot

What a great way to begin the week! The Ace of Swords swoops in today to encourage you to cease the day, take on the challenge and cut away all that holds you back.

A fresh new beginning is being presented to you, but it is entirely up to you to take that first step and accept what is being offered. The Ace of Swords could represent a new job, a new project, a bright idea, a course or workshop…

Don’t let the usual things hold you back today. Just notice them – but don’t give them any power. Better yet, cut away the cords that bind you, so you can move forward in a fearless, free fashion 🙂

Are Angel Cards Wimpy?

The other day I was perusing a Tarot forum and I came across a lot of negative comments regarding Angel Cards and Oracle decks that are totally positive and uplifting.

The problem that many of the forum commenters had was that all-positive decks do not accurately reflect the reality of life, which is a balance of light and dark.

angel tarot doreen virtueTo quote one commenter: “I’m not into the totally light and fluffy stuff. Life is both darkness and light–both are useful and both have their places. Denying one or the other is cutting oneself off from a whole realm of human existence.”

Another commenter was a bit harsher – unfortunately I couldn’t find the original quote, as the comment thread for this topic was huge – but he thought that Angel Cards appeal to people who don’t want to think and that these types of decks were dumbing people down.

While I LOVE gentle and uplifting decks with Angels and Fairies and cheery phrases, I thought these commenters had an interesting point.

Personally, I have quite a range of Tarot decks in my collection, although I have noticed I tend to gravitate toward the more uplifting decks, like the Crystal Visions Tarot.

Since I read with both “edgy” Tarot cards and Angel Oracle cards, I can honestly say that I don’t really find one to be superior to the other when it comes to getting insight and guidance. But I prefer the happy, sunshiny decks.

I do think that reading Oracle cards that have a full message written right on the card is way easier than reading Tarot cards that may just have a number and picture. But you know what? Who cares? There is enough things in life that are hard, doing readings doesn’t have to be struggle.

Healing with the Fairies Oracle Cards by Doreen Virtue

I think people are attracted to all-positive decks like Fairy Oracle cards and Angel Tarot because there is enough disturbing shit in the world and people don’t necessarily want to feel disturbed when they turn over The Devil or Ten of Swords. And that’s okay!

Studying Tarot is wonderful if you want a challenge and there is real value in understanding the “scary” Tarot cards, simply because once you shine a light on them they are no longer scary (a topic for another blog post!). But if simply getting higher guidance and comfort is what you want, Angel cards do the job amazingly well.

Tarot and Oracle cards are simply cards with pictures and words on them. They are designed to trigger our intuition, imagination and creativity. Go with the method that works best for you.

What do YOU think? Do you prefer Tarot cards or gentle Oracle decks? Or both? And do you worry that the all-positive decks are turning people into morons? Are Fairy and Angel decks too fluffy or do they have their place?

Adept of Chalices ~ Tarot Card for Monday

knight of cups
Sirian Starseed Tarot by Patricia Cori

Today’s Tarot card is the Adept of Chalices from the Sirian Starseed Tarot. This card is most commonly known as the Knight of Cups in most Tarot decks.

When I first turned this card over, I thought it said “Adept of Challenges”! But I do see this card as representing challenges – creative challenges and our ability to navigate them with ease and grace.

Creative solutions will flow to you today without you even trying. That is the secret to solving any problem right now – don’t try too hard, let things flow in their own way and you will be propelled along with very little effort on your part.

Like this deck? Check out my review of these cards…

The Seeker of Chalices is the card for today. Its time to come out of your shell! Don’t hold back any longer – follow your heart and let your inspiration and creative yearning guide you.

I feel like this card speaks specifically to those wanting to express their connection to spirit in an artistic way. Like channeling through painting or writing, or even studying the psychic arts as a way to help others.

You may feel like your emotions are running strong today and you aren’t sure what to do with them. Channel your emotions into your creativity today!

Feeling emotional is almost like visiting another dimension – you have access to ideas, perspectives and visions that you wouldn’t normally have. Your creative and emotional potential is high today – the challenge is learning how to use it!

Osho Zen Tarot Card for Monday!

osho zen tarot knight of rainbows
Osho Zen Tarot

Before I get into today’s reading, I have a favor to ask you!….I am currently creating a Tarot e-book/workshop and I want to get a better idea of what Tarot topics are of interest to my readers. The major question I have is: what are the biggest challenges you face when reading Tarot for others? Just let me know in the comments section – I can’t wait to hear your reply! Thank you in advance 🙂

The Osho Zen Tarot message for today is that its time to slow down and savor life at a snails (or turtles) pace. This will allow you to go deeper and notice things that normally pass you by.

If you have been going along at a hectic pace, try to consciously slow things down this week – whether that means trimming your schedule or trading in TV time for yoga – do what works for you. If you feel like life is going too slow for your liking, take advantage of this time by going within and re-evaluating the direction you are headed in.

In the areas of career and life purpose, take slow, deliberate steps toward your goals. There is no need to rush or panic – take your time. If you are worried about procrastinating, do one small thing each day that brings you closer to your goal. And most importantly, stay present!

The Wheel of Fortune

wheel of fortune tarot card meaning
Rider Waite Tarot by US Games Systems, Inc.

The Wheel of Fortune Tarot card meaning: Cycles, change, ups and downs of life, good luck.

The Wheel of Fortune reminds you that life is constantly in flux. The world turns around and around and similarly, we too go through phases and cycles so that there are times of plenty and joy and times of scarcity and sadness.

The Wheel of Fortune typically represents circumstances in the physical, outer world (as opposed to the inner, spiritual world). The wisdom of this Tarot card is not to base your happiness solely on outer circumstances. The Wheel of Fortune Tarot card challenges you to go deeper. The more centered you are on this wheel, the less effected you will be by life changes.

The Wheel of Fortune often foretells a stroke of luck, appearing when things are on the upswing. Yet it encourages you to get centered within yourself and detach from the worldly drama and desire for material objects and social status, so that you do not feel pulled in all directions as you move through life. This is when true wisdom and joy arise.

When:

  • There is a turn of events in your life and luck is on your side!
  • Things are changing and shifting and you are feeling excited, yet stressed
  • It is important for you to stay true to yourself and not get lost in life’s dramas

Inquiry:

  • What does being “centered” mean to you? How can you do this?
  • What stage of the wheel are you in right now?
  • How can you make the most of this time?

Action:

  • Make a note of the things that tend to pull you out of yourself (anything that makes you feel anxiety, fear, anger, distraction)
  • Practice breathing and grounding exercises to stay calm and centered
  • Take a risk! Luck is on your side.

Strength

Strength Tarot Card Meaning: patience, right use of power, conquering fear

The Strength Tarot card challenges our typical notions of power and “strength” as it depicts a fair maiden gently taming a wild beast. Instead of working against the current, she works with it, showing that strength and wisdom are intimately intertwined.

Wisdom, right use of power and fearlessness are all themes of Strength. The lion in this card represents the beast within us, our dark and wild side. If we fear, reject and try to control this part of ourselves with brute force and violent suppression, it can become unruly and threaten to destroy us.

When we have compassion and understanding for ourselves, we are able to become integrated and whole,  strong and powerful. This Strength Tarot card meaning indicates a wise kind of power – one that does not seek power over others, but the power to explore and unconditionally love one’s whole self.

When:

  • You are faced with a challenge
  • It is time to call upon your inner strengths
  • You are seeking to come to some kind of agreement

Inquiry:

  • Think back to a difficult time in your life – what inner strengths did you use to get you through it?
  • What are your hidden qualities that you reject or dislike?
  • What has been your experience of power? Is it something you fear, loathe, enjoy or crave? How has your experience of power shaped your life?

Action:

  • Make peace with your “shadow self”: take notes on your hidden, unlikeable qualities and then find a way to bring acceptance and love to these parts of yourself
  • Let go of any desire to have power over others and focus on developing your inner power to unconditionally love all aspects of yourself
  • Take a firm, yet gentle approach in your communications with others and show compassion and understanding for the other’s viewpoint

Knight of Pentacles Tarot Card for Monday!

druidcraft tarot prince of pentacles
The Druidcraft Tarot by Philip and Stephanie Carr-Gomm and artist Will Worthington

The Knight of Pentacles Tarot card (or Prince of Pentacles in the Druidcraft Tarot), is here today to encourage you to take your time to think things through, but don’t get too hung up on playing it safe.

The Knight of Pentacles is a sensible, hesitant Knight – he is the only Knight in the Tarot who isn’t moving forward! This suggests that you may feel like things have come to a standstill or you are hesitating about moving forward on your path because you want to make sure you are going in the right direction.

The Knight of Pentacles Tarot card also indicates a strong need to feel safe and secure. This can become a problem if it continually holds you back from taking risks and stepping outside your comfort zone. Focus on feeling safe even when you are challenged or in unfamiliar surroundings – this will help you move forward on your path with confidence and excitement.

Daily Oracle Card Reading for Wednesday ~ Yoga

yoga-life-purpose-oracle
Life Purpose Oracle Cards by Doreen Virtue

Today’s daily oracle card reading is all about Yoga! The message on this card says, “Your life is enhanced by yoga, stretching, and exercising.”

Use Yoga today to calm down, energize and connect with your body and your self. Yoga is an excellent aid for releasing energetic blockages in the body and developing a calm, clear and peaceful mind.

I think that keeping our energetic bodies, such as our chakras, in balance is a major challenge for many of us and Yoga can be extremely helpful with this. However, any kind of regular exercise will help with this, although Yoga is particularly effective.

Set aside some time today to do yoga, or some other form of exercise or meditation. Here is a wonderful yoga video to get you started:
