Greetings! I returned home yesterday from my vacation in Alaska and after a full day of laundry, unpacking and doing the usual boring post-vacation stuff, I am excited to get back to my daily readings!
Today’s Tarot card is the Page of Pentacles, one of my faves! This card has come to speak to the student within you – the lifelong learner that loves learning new skills and reading countless books.
Today is the day to fully immerse yourself in learning something for its own sake. Don’t learn to better yourself – learn because its fun, because it lets you be in the moment.
Take an inquisitive approach to problems and challenges today. Do your research before making a decision and don’t assume you know how another person feels.
When it comes to being creative, don’t let your inexperience hold you back. So what if your artwork or music sucks? Keep at it and you’ll get way better than you ever thought possible. Be willing to experiment today!

The Eight of Swords has appeared because you may find yourself in the thick of self sabotage today. Self defeating thoughts may threaten to overwhelm you, keeping you blind to reality. Remember that things are not really how they seem when you are in a negative mindset.
If you find yourself feeling helpless, down in the dumps or even just confused, your task today is to pinpoint the negative thought (or thoughts) causing you stress and find a way to turn those thoughts around.
Those negative thoughts don’t need to exist – they are no more a reflection of reality than your positive thoughts. Take the time to question your thoughts: are they really true? How might they be untrue? How might the opposite of those miserable thoughts be true?
As you unravel your limiting thoughts and beliefs, the veil will lift and you will become truly free.
Today’s card is Judgement and it is all about reinventing your life by listening to your “inner calling”.
You are gifted with the ability to discover your destiny, your true purpose, simply by following your bliss and moving in the direction that you feel pulled. So where do you feel drawn today?
Remember that it is never too late to start doing what you have always wanted to do. As soon as you start following your passion, magical things begin happening – doors begin opening, you meet people and life has a new spark to it.
Keep in mind that you don’t have to wait until you feel totally passionate about something to take action. Simply do what seems most interesting and appealing to you right now and this will lead you to all the big, important, awesome stuff!
The Deathcard comes to us to remind us that each day we are reborn and a part of us dies and is left behind. We are never the same person today as we were yesterday and tomorrow we will be different yet again.
If you ever find yourself lamenting “nothing ever changes!”, think again – death/change is constant, which can feel both exhausting and liberating.
Another way to think of Death is as a transformation, which is nicely represented by all the butterflies in this card. Each day we have the opportunity to transform ourselves, a situation or our beliefs….so what do you want to transform today?
The other day I was perusing a Tarot forum and I came across a lot of negative comments regarding Angel Cards and Oracle decks that are totally positive and uplifting.
The problem that many of the forum commenters had was that all-positive decks do not accurately reflect the reality of life, which is a balance of light and dark.
To quote one commenter: “I’m not into the totally light and fluffy stuff. Life is both darkness and light–both are useful and both have their places. Denying one or the other is cutting oneself off from a whole realm of human existence.”
Another commenter was a bit harsher – unfortunately I couldn’t find the original quote, as the comment thread for this topic was huge – but he thought that Angel Cards appeal to people who don’t want to think and that these types of decks were dumbing people down.
While I LOVE gentle and uplifting decks with Angels and Fairies and cheery phrases, I thought these commenters had an interesting point.
Personally, I have quite a range of Tarot decks in my collection, although I have noticed I tend to gravitate toward the more uplifting decks, like the Crystal Visions Tarot.
Since I read with both “edgy” Tarot cards and Angel Oracle cards, I can honestly say that I don’t really find one to be superior to the other when it comes to getting insight and guidance. But I prefer the happy, sunshiny decks.
I do think that reading Oracle cards that have a full message written right on the card is way easier than reading Tarot cards that may just have a number and picture. But you know what? Who cares? There is enough things in life that are hard, doing readings doesn’t have to be struggle.

I think people are attracted to all-positive decks like Fairy Oracle cards and Angel Tarot because there is enough disturbing shit in the world and people don’t necessarily want to feel disturbed when they turn over The Devil or Ten of Swords. And that’s okay!
Studying Tarot is wonderful if you want a challenge and there is real value in understanding the “scary” Tarot cards, simply because once you shine a light on them they are no longer scary (a topic for another blog post!). But if simply getting higher guidance and comfort is what you want, Angel cards do the job amazingly well.
Tarot and Oracle cards are simply cards with pictures and words on them. They are designed to trigger our intuition, imagination and creativity. Go with the method that works best for you.

Today’s Tarot card, the Four of Pentacles, suggests you are grasping your money tightly. Its tax time, so this makes sense! You may be feeling the pinch…but this card suggests lightening up a little 🙂
The pixie in this Four of Pentacles card is above a pile of golden coins suggesting she is much richer than she feels. This is an important thing to remember: poverty (and abundance) is a state of mind.
If you are feeling broke or anxious about money, try to shift your energy from poverty to abundance. You can do this by trying something out of the ordinary…..
If you normally spend sensibly, buy yourself something luxurious and extravagant (like fancy soap or that overpriced coconut milk ice cream at the health food store). If you are a little out of control with spending money, see if you can start saving a little change each and every day.
This will help you feel more abundant, which will in turn help you attract more abundance into your life.
After reading the results of my Tarot survey (which is still open if you haven’t done it yet!), many of you indicated that you were interested in connecting with your Spirit Guides and Angels. So I designed a Tarot card spread to help you do just that!

To me, the Queen of Swords shows that my guides are helping me get clarity (represented by the sharp sword) while I experience an inner transformation (symbolized by the butterflies).
The Six of Swords confirms that I am going through a time of transition and that my guides are with me, helping me all the way.
However, it was the Two of Pentacles that made no sense at first. How on Earth does the Two of Pentacles help me connect with my Spirit Guides?
After really sitting with this card I noticed two things – the girl in the card is dancing and it is a Pentacles/Earth card. For the past 12 years I have enjoyed bellydancing and this was my way of grounding and feeling connected to the Earth and Spirit. But in the last year I haven’t been dancing as much. This was my guide’s way of telling me to get back dancing in order to feel a deeper connection to spirit.

I have a confession….for years I never really felt all that confident with the Court Cards. When they came up in my own readings, I would feel mildly annoyed and when they came up during a reading I was doing for someone else, I would inwardly curse.
Why?

Because the Court Cards are tricky! They aren’t like the other cards. They are more subtle, more secretive and less obvious than many of the Major and Minor Arcana cards.
So while I had mastered all the other cards in the Tarot, after years of study, the Court Cards remained elusive to me. And they made me doubt my ability as a Tarot Reader.
So I decided to spend some quality time with my Court Cards and learn them once and for all. I read all about the Tarot Courts in all the books I had and I tried all the exercises. By the time I was done I felt I had “mastered” the Court Cards!
Monday’s Tarot card is the Two of Pentacles and this card is all about balance and performing under pressure.
You may find yourself juggling two or more responsibilities today, but rest assured that you will can manage the chaos effectively and with grace.
You can handle a lot all at once, but beware of the temptation to take on even more. This is a balancing act and tipping the scales too much to one side with cause everything to come tumbling down. When others see how well you manage stress and responsibilities, they may ask for your help, so know when to say “no”.
The trick to keeping calm amidst business is to stay centered within yourself. Don’t get pulled into any dramas today – instead, take deep breaths throughout the day and focus on what needs to get done.
The other night I woke at 3am, full of anxiety about an issue that was on my mind. I felt full of uncertainty and I really just wanted answers, guidance and comfort. Whenever I feel sick to my stomach with worry, I reach for my Crystal Visions Tarot and my Angel cards.
But I knew that if I did a reading for myself in this state of confusion and fear, it would end up being a jumbled, nonsensical reading.
So I made an extra effort to ground myself and clear the energy in the room – clearing the decks for a great reading to take place.
Once sacred space and clear intention had been created, I felt so calm and grounded and ready to read the cards. The reading I did for myself was amazing – it was clear and accurate and left me feeling totally connected to my angels and guides, like they were right in the room with me! However, I know it would not have been so crystal clear and uplifting had I not taken the steps the I did before the reading.
Here is my personal formula for creating sacred space and clearing my energy:
Take a moment to chill out before a reading, no matter how stressed you are
1) Light some candles, turn down the lights and put on some relaxing music
2) Sage my aura – I do this by lighting a bundle of dried sage and wafting the smoke around me, with the intention of clearing my energy field of any fear or anxiety
3) Clear my reading space by wafting the sage smoke around my reading table
Sit calmly and “ground” my energy by taking slow, even breaths and visualizing any negative energy or worry draining out through my feet and into the floor. I make a conscious effort to connect my energy to the earth’s energy
4) Connect with my deck by holding it in my hands, closing my eyes and asking my Angels, spirit guides and higher self for help and guidance with my particular issue
5) Begin the reading with absolute trust that the cards that I choose are the ones I need to see at this time
I cannot tell you the countless times I have not taken these steps and instead did a rushed, panicky reading in a frantic attempt to get the answers I was looking for. It never worked out when I did it that way!
Creating sacred space makes your reading special and sends a message to the universe that you take this seriously – so expect to get outstanding results when you try this. Doing this one thing will change the quality of your readings in profound ways.
